Hit the Mark

This installation was challenging for a number of reasons – the wall was extremely textured so achieving clean lines was very difficult, there was another structure close behind so being able to step back for perspective wasn’t possible, and having applied the gradient before the outline meant there was no margin for error. The gradient was applied by taking two colours of house paint and blending them together carefully before they dried. I then used sidewalk chalk to do my initial sketch, and did the outline over that in black. I also wanted a bit of depth in the piece, so I used spray paint in select spots to create subtle drop shadows and a sense of layering.

The line ‘hit the mark’ is connected with the name Tychon. One of the Tychon’s direct translations into Greek is ‘hit the mark’, so it seemed like a suitable line for this project.
